Benchmark Norway bolsters genetics program with new broodstock licenses
November 2, 2023 By Hatchery International staff
The Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Fisheries announced on Oct. 9 that it is granting Benchmark Genetics Norway two new broodstock licenses.
According to Benchmark Genetics, the 360 tons for production in the sea and 420 tons on land in Benchmark Genetics Salten will fortify the supply chain and meet the growing demand for salmon eggs.
“The additional broodstock capacity enlarges the selection pool in our genetics programme, reduces operational risk by having broodstock volume at different sites, and supports the future potential expansion of our production of ova in Salten,” a press release from the company states.
Trond Williksen CEO of Benchmark Holdings said the company’s genetics operations are important to their ability to supply highly bio-secure salmon eggs to salmon producers.
“The two new licenses enable us to increase further security of supply of bio-secure, high-quality eggs with high-performing genetic traits for our customers supporting our mission to drive sustainability in aquaculture,” said Williksen.
