Benchmark Genetics Chile names new general manager
October 2, 2023 By Hatchery International staff
Aquaculture genetics company, Benchmark Genetics Chile, has announced Berta Contreras Mutis as the new general manager.
Mutis, who started the new position on Sept. 18, took over from Pablo Mazo. Mazo is now performance and documentation manager at Benchmark Genetics Norway.
“We firmly believe that Berta is the right person to lead our continued growth in this market, where an increasing number of farmers are showing interest in our Atlantic salmon ova,” said Geir Olav Melingen, president, board of directors of Benchmark Genetics Chile.
Mutis is a marine chemist and has a history within the Chilean salmon industry. She previously worked as technical manager and corporate affairs manager at Marine Harvest Chile, then Mowi Chile, as managing partner at Conecta Spa, and as technical manager and research and development at Cermaq Chile.
Melingen said Mutis’ experience and understanding of the salmon farming sector will help with the company’s operations.
