Responsible Seafood partners with Aquaculture Tribe to expand global network

The Center for Responsible Seafood (TCRS) is partnering with Aquaculture Tribe, a Norway-based seafood industry network, to expand its global reach.

The new alliance – which now has a combined membership of more than 6,500 seafood professionals and advocates – will also include free virtual registrations for Aquaculture Tribe members to the inaugural TCRS Shrimp Summit in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on July 24-26.

“There is a wealth of aquaculture knowledge and resources out there, but the people who need it most, don’t have access to it,” said Sunny Akhter, founder and president of Aquaculture Tribe. “We are excited to be partnering with TCRS to bring sustainable aquaculture tools and best practices to communities all over the world. Together, we can gain more traction in attacking food insecurity, building sustainable economies and improving the environment.”

Aquaculture Tribe is one of the largest platforms on sustainable seafood. The organization has three main objectives: 1) to “upskill” the aquaculture value chain with a focus on reducing carbon emissions, 2) use sustainability as a long-term business advantage, and 3) to position farmed seafood as the preferred protein to feed the rising human population.

TCRS, founded in 2009 as the Responsible Aquaculture Foundation, supports “the transformation of aquaculture by addressing fundamental issues through knowledge sharing, applied research, and collaboration with industry, governments, NGOs, academia, development banks, and foundations.” The organization was revamped in 2021 to expand its mission to include wild-caught seafood.

“Just like TCRS, Aquaculture Tribe looks to make an impact at the most local levels to develop small farm businesses and make a real difference in improving both local economies and the sustainability of our planet,” said George Chamberlain, president of TCRS.
