Aquaculture Innovation Award 2018 call for applications

The 2018 Global Aquaculture Innovation Award has announces it is now accepting applications for the sixth annual competition.

Handed out by the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) and sponsored by Skretting, the Global Aquaculture Innovation Award recognizes individuals and companies that are finding new and innovative solutions to key challenges in the aquaculture industry.

Three award finalists will be invited to the GAA’s GOAL 2018 conference in Guayaquil, Ecuador, taking place from Sept. 25 to 27, 2018, according to the GAA. The finalists will receive and all-expenses-paid trip to attend the conference. They will also be given the opportunity to present their innovation submission at the conference. The final winner will be selected by the audience in real time.

Individuals and companies are both eligible to apply for the award. According to the award website, aquaculture innovation examples include: “technologies that mitigate the occurrence of animal diseases or parasites, or that reduce or eliminate the use of antibiotics to treat animals; technologies that improve production efficiencies at the hatchery or farm levels while mitigating environmental impact; advances in offshore or land-based recirculation technology; novel feed ingredients; reductions in carbon footprint through improved energy efficiency or regeneration; and social programs designed to improve living and working conditions at the farm or processing levels.”
