Nutreco announced Oct. 30 that the company has acquired Cargill’s compound feed business in Portugal.

The business will become a part of Nanta, Nutreco’s Iberian animal feed business and within its animal nutrition division, Trouw Nutrition.

“We are delighted to announce that Nutreco, has signed a deal to acquire such a reputable business,” said Nutreco COO and Trouw Nutrition CEO Harm de Wildt in a statement. “Closing this transaction is part of our strategy to strengthen and grow our base in the Iberian Peninsula.”

Harm de Wildt said he hopes this new deal will strengthen the company’s position in the Portuguese market, mainly in ruminant feed and lifestyle feed. Cargill’s two plans in Portugal (in Ovear and in Alverca) will transfer to Nutreco, adding to its own plant located in Marco de Vanaveses.

Cargill’s premix and nutrition businesses are not included. Subject to approval from the Portuguese authorities, the acquisition is expected to be finalized in spring 2020.

“We will be working closely together with Cargill’s compound feed business in Portugal to ensure a proper integration of the business as soon as possible after all necessary authorizations have been given. Doing so will ensure that customers continue to get the products they need as they need them and at a quality level they’re used to,” said Nutreco managing director Gerd Botter.

Nutreco is a global leader in animal nutrition and aqua feed. Its two brands, Skretting and Truow Nutrition, have sales in over 90 countries.
