Kingfish Maine set to break ground by end of 2021, with final permits
November 18, 2021 By Hatchery International Staff
The Kingfish Company has announced its second planned recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) facility in Maine, U.S., has received its final state-level approvals. With these approvals, the company is scheduled to break ground by the end of 2021.
These last state-level permits indicate compliance with substantial checks, certifications and inspections by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (MDEP), and were granted with the approval of Kingfish Maine’s Site Location of Development Act (SLODA) and Natural Resources Protection Act (NRPA) applications. Both critical water-side permits were obtained earlier during 2021.
The new RAS facility is anticipated to annually produce up to 8,500 metric tons of Yellowtail, upon completion.
