CAT unveils new shrimp genetics research centre
July 21, 2023 By Hatchery International staff

The Centre of Aquaculture Technologies (CAT) is diving into the shrimp industry with a new facility dedicated to genetics research.
The Shrimp Genetics Innovation Center, announced on July 20, is meant to quadruple the research institute’s shrimp research capacity by featuring a new genome editing editing laboratory and tank space. The new facility will be open at the CAT San Diego location with a “a synergistic relationship with CAT Finfish Genetics Innovation Center.”
“The increase in rearing and research capacity means we are even better prepared to deliver innovations to boost efficiency in the shrimp industry through genome editing. Our team is excited to be working in this new space and looks forward to helping clients achieve their goals,” said Matt Stone, facility manager at the Shrimp Genetics Innovation Center.
The new facility will be dedicated to the memory of Dr. Richard H. Towner, a researcher in the field of genetics who served as a trusted advisor to CAT.
