AquaSeed Corporation is an international leader in the supply of genetically superior Pacific salmon seedstocks such as its Domsea® Coho and Donaldson steelhead. With more than 15 generations of selective breeding, the Domsea strains represent the most successful pedigreed breeding program in the salmon livestock industry. Its domesticated Coho and Donaldson steelhead strains supply farms worldwide.

Farmers can grow the Domsea Coho strain from 20 grams to smolt in 100 days at 10^oC from swim-up, which represents a five-fold improvement in productivity since the beginning of the breeding program.   This is truly a domesticated stock, bred to perform well when raised in captivity. The brood has been selected for fast growth, high feed conversations and ease of domestic fish culture.

The Donaldson strain has been bred for high growth rates. During the first year, at a water temperature of 10°C (50°F), the broodstock doubled their weight every month. The growth rates are very uniform and little grading is required. This strain of Donaldson performs well on regular trout diets.  The average weight of the 3-4 year old first time spawners is 15 lbs.  The small head and high meat-to-bone ratio yields a fillet of at least 5 percent more weight than a similar-sized Atlantic salmon. Similarly, the Donaldson produces a relatively wide fillet for its weight due to its deep body form.

The role of AquaSeed® in the development of salmon farms around the world goes far beyond the production and sale of top-of-the-line Coho and Donaldson steelhead. AquaSeed’s resources of genetic material and expertise place it in a position to both service and assist in the development of salmon farming throughout the world. AquaSeed is also applying this expertise in the conservation of endangered Pacific salmon by providing gene banks through its Safety-Net Program.

AquaSeed has also developed products to aid in the vaccination of fish and the transportation of eyed eggs. AquaSeed is the exclusive supplier of the AquaJector^TM, a pneumatic vaccinating gun that significantly increases the ease of vaccinating fish. The company also provides a patented EggBox® product line, which ensures safe transportation of live salmonid embryos (eyed eggs).
