Acadian Sturgeon & Caviar Inc.

Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada

Acadian Sturgeon & Caviar Inc. produces and sells sturgeon stocking material of Atlantic and shortnose sturgeon for aquaculture, restocking and research. We are also offering consulting and R&D services in the field of sturgeon aquaculture and ecology. Acadian Sturgeon is developing the production of sturgeon meat and caviar as well as a gene bank for both those sturgeon species in Carters Point, New Brunswick.

Our company was founded in 2005 in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, for producing and selling sturgeon stocking material, meat and caviar. In 2005 we built a sturgeon-spawning hatchery in Carters Point, on Saint John River and over the last three wears we produced and exported stocking material that was used for research, restocking and aquaculture for meat and caviar (Poland, Germany, USA, Canada).

As the market for sturgeon products (especially caviar) is very demanding, we are looking now for opportunities to develop our business further into the production of sturgeon meat and caviar. We are now working to create a land based grow-out sturgeon farm, farm that will include R&D and a gene bank for both sturgeon species (shortnose & Atlantic) available in Saint John River. In 2007 we will break ground in building this grow-out facility on 2.5 ha of land in Carters Point, NB, Canada, with a designed capacity of 165 tonnes of sturgeon meat and 10 tonnes of caviar.

The owner/operator of Acadian Sturgeon and Caviar Inc, Dr Cornel Ceapa, has an extensive experience in sturgeon aquaculture. He has a “Magna Cum Laudae” sturgeon subject PhD in co-direction (Romania and France). Dr. Ceapa was employed as a research associate at University of New Brunswick in Saint John, Canada and he also held an NSERC Industrial research postdoctoral fellowship at Grays Aqua Farms Ltd. For the last 13 years Dr Cornel Ceapa has worked in research and production of sturgeon and he masters the sturgeon aquaculture technology that he improved with his own experience during the last years.
